Dahlia is a Lebanese/Syrian/American storyteller whose passions are rooted in photography, poetry and community events.
Born and raised in Dubai and now based in big, bad NYC, she grew up as a third culture kid, an experience that shapes her a global perspective on her projects and the world. She's at her best when she's telling stories and creating spaces where people can come together in connection and community.
Her personal work explores the layers of Arab-American identity through photography and poetry. She gravitates toward the quotidian and seemingly mundane, using bold colors and high contrast to reveal beauty in everyday moments. She bring together themes of place, culture, society, religion, womanhood, loss and love, always with the intention of providing new narratives of the SWANA region through simple, vibrant scenes.
Currently, she's the Photo Editor and Photographer for Pratt Institute, am an UpNext Diversify Photographer and a producer/programmer of the 'Banat El Hara' art exhibition alongside the Arab Film & Media Institute. She also serves as an Afikra community organizer and sometimes lead workshops on poetry art and artists from the SWANA region.
She's worked across freelance, social, and advertising agency spaces, creating content for brands like VICELAND, OREO, Fujifilm, Boatsetter, WhatsApp, and Naturally Curly. She was also a Diversify Photo x Fujifilm DEVELOP mentee and an AdClub i’mPART Women’s Fellow.
Past lives include (but are not limited to) improv acting, playing on a basketball team and pretending she was going to law school.
